ABOUT CHEMICAL PEELS

At Skin Body & Soul Med Studio, only medical grade chemical peels are offered. Benefits of these medical grade chemical peels include the following: improved skin clarity, tone and texture; reduction in hyperpigmentation and size of pores; softening of fine lines and wrinkles; improved appearance of acne scars and improved control of active acne; and stimulation of collagen production and elastin for firmness, brightness and a more youthful skin.

wHAT IT IS

Chemical peels are made with a number of chemicals, acids and vitamins. The solution is applied directly to the skin causing a chemical reaction that assist the dull, damaged skin to peel off, revealing new, healthier cells to grow in its place. The end result is a more healthy, youthful skin. Chemical peels may be applied to the face, neck, and chest areas.

Light chemical peels, also known as superficial chemical peels, remove the outer layer of the skin or the epidermis. Light chemical peels may be repeated as often as every 2-4 weeks. Medium chemical peels remove skin cells from the epidermis and the upper part of the middle layer of the skin called the dermis. Medium chemical peels are often offered as a 3 peel treatment to achieve the optimal results then maintained every 6-12 months. Deep chemical peels remove skin cells even deeper and do not require additional treatments.

how it works

On average, a chemical peel can take between 30-60 minutes in office.

Depending on the strength of your peel, you may experience a warming sensation, sting or burning sensation throughout the application.  Tightness is noted after the peel and may increase over several days depending on the strength of the peel. You can expect little to no downtime, however, may experience significant peeling for up to 10 days with medium chemical peels.

It is important to follow all pre and post care instructions to minimize any adverse effects and maximize all benefits.

Best Practices & Reminders to Maximize Recovery Time and Results:

    • The treated areas will feel tight and may appear slightly darker in appearance.

    • Do not wash, touch, rub or apply make-up to the treated area for at least 6 hours.

    • Do not apply any products to your face on Day 1 including SPF - wear a baseball cap or hat on Day 1.

    • Avoid excessive sweating, sauna or heavy exercise during the peeling process which may take up to 10 days.

    • Do not rub, pick or pull on the peeling skin. It is important to allow the peeling to occur naturally. Rubbing, picking or pulling may cause scarring. Moisturizers may be applied during peeling process.

    • Avoid sun exposure for at least 7 days after treatment to prevent UV rays from damaging your skin which slows down the recovery and overall effects of the chemical peel.

    • If unable to avoid the sun, apply a mineral SPF 30 or greater every 2 hours during sun exposure for 4 weeks after the treatment.

    • Do not use glycolic, alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy, retinol, benzyl peroxide, or topical acne medications for 10 days following treatment.

    • Avoid harsh chemicals or tanning for 10 days as they may irritate the skin decreasing the effects of the chemical peel.
